Southern Cassowarry

Found in tropical rainforest in the northeastern corner of Queensland the Southern Cassowarry is a flightless bird that can negotiate dense forest at great speed.
Photographed at the Billabong Wildlife Park Port Macquarie NSW.

Goanna

Diamond Head near Laurieton is a great location for seeing Australian Wildlife up close. On this occasion, apart from the usual Eastern Grey Kangaroos, there were no less than five Goannas of varying sizes roaming the camping area. These two were around five feet in length.

Flying Fox or Fruit Bat

It was early in the morning and I found this little flying fox trapped under a pushbike wheel. He must have landed on the wheel and when it rolled with his weight he became caught.
There is a large colony of up to 500,000 Flying Foxes in Port Macquarie just north of here.At dusk they can usually be seen flying in mass out of Koolanbung Creek searching for food throughout the district.
